Tampa Bay marketing for storm weeks and the steady months between
In Tampa Bay, demand doesn't drift. One storm can double roofing searches in a week, and the AC never really switches off. We plan for the spikes and for the long, steady stretches in between.
How we work with Tampa Bay businesses
We work with businesses across the US, remotely, with a named strategist. We don’t have an office in Tampa Bay, and we won’t pretend to. What you get is one person who knows your account, answers inside a business day and sends a weekly summary you can read in two minutes.
A note on the name: we say Tampa Bay on purpose. Owners in St. Pete and Clearwater don’t call themselves Tampa businesses, and neither do their customers.
Tampa Bay at a glance
The Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro had 3,418,895 residents in 2025, up 7.7% since 2020.1 It permitted 13,596 single-family homes that year, eighth in the country.2
The housing is older than the growth suggests. The median home dates to 1987, and 39% were built before 1980.3 Hold onto that; it matters when we get to Florida’s roof rules. Nearly one in ten housing units, 9.7%, is a mobile home.3
Heat here means electricity. Fully 92% of homes heat with it and just 5% with gas,3 so heat pumps and AC run in some form almost all year.
Now the crowded part. The metro has 1,429 plumbing and HVAC establishments, or 41.8 for every 100,000 residents. Most large metros sit between 28 and 33.4 Add 324 pest-control companies, 277 roofers, 1,427 dental offices and 3,070 physician offices.4 Prices run close to the national average.5
The work we’d chase here
Roofing. Roofer search interest in the Tampa DMA is 56, among the highest of the large metros we compared.6 Storms and Florida’s roof and insurance rules make roofing marketing here its own discipline. See roofing.
HVAC. AC never really clocks out. “AC repair” interest rises from 10 in January to 42 and 43 in July and August.6 Maintenance plans sell themselves when the system runs ten months a year. See HVAC.
Pest control. Pest-control interest scores 77, one of the highest readings in the country.6
Med spas and dental. Med-spa interest in the Tampa DMA is 86, tied with Miami for the top of the metros we compared, and dentist interest of 73 is second only to Charlotte.6 BayCare, with nearly 32,000 team members and 16 hospitals, is the region’s dominant health system.7 Independent practices are fighting a household name for local visibility. See med spas and dental.
Storm season and everything else
Hurricane Milton came ashore near Siesta Key on October 9, 2024, as a Category 3, two weeks after Helene hit the same coast. Gusts reached 101 mph at St. Petersburg’s Albert Whitted Airport and 93 mph at Tampa International, and NCEI puts Milton’s US damage at $34.3 billion.8
Search followed the wind. “Roof repair” interest in the Tampa DMA ran between 15 and 29 in September 2024, then hit 50 and 54 in the two weeks after Milton, roughly double its usual October level.6
Without a storm, roof-repair searches build through spring and peak in August at 31,6 right in the middle of hurricane season. AC repair stays above 30 from May through August and bottoms at 10 in December and January.6 That winter dip is softer than it looks, because heating here is heat-pump work too.3
The lesson is simple. A Tampa Bay roofer’s storm plan has to be built before June: pages written, campaigns built and paused, call capacity lined up. Building it the week after landfall is too late, and it shows.
We’ll also say this plainly. Storm marketing should help people, not scare them. No fear-selling, no chasing.
Florida rules that change how you advertise
Not legal advice. Check the details with DBPR.
Your number goes everywhere. Florida law requires a contractor’s registration or certification number in each offer of services, bid, contract or advertisement, “regardless of medium.” If your name is on a truck, the number goes on the truck too.9 Every ad, landing page and Business Profile we build carries it. No exceptions.
Registered isn’t the same as certified. A registered contractor can work only in the counties or cities tied to that registration,10 while a state-certified contractor can work statewide.11 A registered roofer running ads across all of Tampa Bay may be advertising in places they can’t legally work. We match your targeting to your license.
Roof rules homeowners actually search for. Since 2022, if a roof was built or replaced under the 2007 Florida Building Code or later, repairing 25% or more of it no longer forces the whole roof up to current code. Older roofs still fall under the original 25% rule. Insurers also can’t refuse to write or renew a policy solely because a roof is under 15 years old, and older roofs with an inspection showing at least five years of life left get protection too.12 Homeowners are confused by all of this. A roofer who explains it clearly earns the inspection.
Local search, split by water
Google ranks local results by relevance, distance and prominence.13 Tampa Bay is cut up by water, and that makes distance count double. A homeowner in St. Petersburg searching “roofer” sees Pinellas companies first. Hillsborough and Pasco are separate markets again.
With 41.8 plumbing and HVAC companies per 100,000 people,4 the map pack is more crowded per person than in most of the country. Reviews and real local pages are what separate the names in it.
After a storm, out-of-area contractors flood the ads. A local company with its license number on every ad,9 a profile full of recent local reviews and a page that explains the roof rules12 stands out from the crowd that showed up last Tuesday.
The agency market is busy too: 1,272 advertising and marketing firms, about 37 per 100,000 residents.4
Our first 90 days with a Tampa Bay business
Written for a roofer, with HVAC and med-spa notes.
Days 1–30: build the storm kit. Call tracking and recorded-call review. Your certification or registration number added to the Business Profile and every ad,9 and a check that your license type matches the counties you target.10 Then the kit itself: storm landing pages, ad campaigns and SMS messages to past customers, all built and paused, ready to switch on. A voice agent that can absorb ten times your normal call volume and book inspections.
Days 31–60: answer what homeowners search. Plain-English pages on the 25% rule, roof age and insurance,12 each ending in an inspection offer. Pages for each county or city cluster you serve, from Pinellas to Pasco. A review request after every job.
Days 61–90: sell the steady months. Pre-season roof inspections in April and May, ahead of the August peak.6 HVAC companies push maintenance plans on the back of year-round AC use. Med spas get a campaign and a page for each treatment they want more of, each tracked on its own.
What’s different from our other city plans: a storm-response kit in place of a season plan, license numbers in every ad by statute, content built on Florida’s roof and insurance rules, and local markets split by water.

Questions people ask us
You're not in Tampa Bay. How does that work?
Remotely, with a named strategist and a weekly summary. Tampa Bay runs an hour ahead of our Central-time calendar, and we book calls in your hours. We don't have a Tampa Bay office and won't pretend to.
What should a roofer do before hurricane season?
Have storm pages, ad campaigns and customer messages built and paused, and enough call capacity, people or an agent, for a surge. After Hurricane Milton, roof-repair searches in the Tampa area roughly doubled for two weeks.
Does my license number really need to be in my Google Ads?
Florida law says your registration or certification number goes in each advertisement, regardless of medium. We put it in ad assets and on every landing page by default.
Do you work with med spas and dental practices?
Yes. Medical is one of our four focus industries. We build a campaign and a page for each treatment you want more of, and keep tracking privacy-conscious.
Should we market in Spanish?
About 22% of Tampa Bay residents are Hispanic or Latino. If your team can serve Spanish-speaking customers, test it.
Will you take on my competitor?
Possibly. We keep it small: only a handful of companies in the same trade in any one metro, and we never share one client's data, ads or plans with another.
Planning your next season in Tampa?
Thirty minutes, no pitch deck. We look at your numbers and tell you what we'd do first, whether or not you hire us.
